Never been any documented cases that I know of that one's eaten a human ever in the wild or captivity. But the accidental deaths caused by them have a happen only a few times in captivity and most of those case no matter what anyone says were pure accidents because if the Orca wanted to kill the human it would have been for food and possibly in a case where a man trespassed at night very likely harassed an Orca leading to it defending itself the only way it could.. If Orca's do grab on to a person it's normally for play but don't understand that we can't play the way they want to. Such as in the case of a wild Orca playing with a seal by tossing it in the air but the seal is not eaten or even killed which has been captured film during a documentary. Orca's are big dolphins that really need a lot of structure. Personally I love to see that big lake in Sea World Orlando turned in to a giant Orca tank. But the only way that would work is if really rich investors gave enough money for the construction and to keep the park open during construction so the animals would still be able to eat. But a lot of people are cheap and greedy and would rather not.
ATTN DEVIANTS: Please keep your Anti-Seaworld comments in a more appropriate forum; this person's DD is not your political soapbox. This person has no control over the treatment of animals at Seaworld and by saying she shouldn't go back in protest, what do you think would happen to the animals if they are no longer wanted/needed? They are already there and are performing so support the animals so they are not performing in vain. Then, turn your protesting energy towards the appropriate venue to instigate reform. However, PETA is not an appropriate venue as they are terrorists who do more harm than good.
Thank you so much for this! People for some reason don't think about what will happen to the animals if their home is shut down. I really hope people will start realizing the is ALOT worse things going on in the world of animals then captivity, whole species go EXTINCT and no one batts an eye. Please realize people that one documentary does not mean you're an expert on the subject or that EVERYTHING they said is true.
Orcas are one of my favorite animals. I love them with a passion and the idea of such a large creature being confined in this way is very sad HOWEVER the animals are already there. they deserve your love and attention and support- despite the fact that sea world does not treat them the best. by not going to sea world- you are causing them to be there for no reason. by not supporting the park and the whales by going there you are making their entrapment pointless. there's too many people who don't care that they are unhappy there who will go there anyway that makes you staying away obsolete.
Let it be. Go and support the whales. Don't let them miss out on love because what Seaworld does. They're not going to be leaving the parks anytime soon :/
I would suggest that you look up the other side of the story before passing judgments, and especially before posting something like that instead of a "Congradulations on the DD!" on this person's deviation.
to be fair, seaworld bastardized dr. ingrid visser's research about dorsal fin ABNORMALITIES, to say that 23% of wild orcas have collapsed dorsals. her research was about all abnormalities in dorsal fins- scars and other damage as well as dorsal collapse. of the orcas she studied only 1% of them had collapsed dorsal fins.
Poor thing. She's showing early signs of a collapsing fin. Other than that you've taken a beautiful picture, my favorite one from your collection so far is the jellyfish illumination part 2. congratulations on your daily deviation.
SeaWorld doesn't treat their animals well at all. So despite what are understandably good intentions, and what is ultimately a beautiful picture.... I advise you NOT to go back there, because you are giving money to an organization that does nothing for its' star inhabitants.
